Walpack Historical Society in cooperation with the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area NPS, will honor the history of African American Residents in Walpack Township in observance of Juneteenth on Friday, June 20, 2025 from 11 am – 2:00 pm.
Guided tours will be conducted of the Black/Slave Cemetery where the remains of up to 50 individuals are interred in unmarked graves. Some are believed to have been former slaves.
Tours will depart from the Van Campen Inn on Old Mine Road at 11 am and at 1:00 pm. The hike to the cemetery is approximately 1.5 miles round trip with a moderate uphill stretch.
Please remember bug spray, sturdy hiking shoes and tick repellent. As always, well-behaved dogs are welcomed but must be on leash at all times.
The Van Campen Inn will also be open for tours from 11 am until 2:00 pm. Dogs are not permitted in the building.
