On SUNDAY OCTOBER 28th, 2018 the Walpack Historical Society’s Annual Fall Hike will be on the BLUE MOUNTAIN LAKES LOOP TRAIL. Please join us for an exceptional autumn afternoon adventure as we experience and enjoy the beautiful woodland scenery at Hemlock Pond and the stunning views of the Walpack Valley and the Pocono Mountains from high atop Indian Rocks.
Meet at the Blue Mountain Lakes parking lot located up on the Flatbrookville-Stillwater Road. Hike departs promptly at 11:00 a.m. Length is approximately 5.6 miles. Terrain is mostly level with some moderate uphill stretches. Wear sturdy footwear, dress for the weather and bring water and snacks.
For those who do not want to hike the entire loop, the option is to hike out to Indian Rocks and return to the parking lot for a distance of approximately 2.1 miles.
The trail follows the bed of a reclaimed road that was once part of the Blue Mountain Lakes recreational community carved out of the Walpack wilderness starting in the late 1950’s. Remains and features of this former development will be apparent during the hike. The Blue Mountain Lakes story can be found at www.njskylands.com/parks-DEWA-blue-mountain-lakes
