Imagine watching history unfold on your very doorstep. This is exactly what the visitors and residents of the Van Campen Inn experienced during the Revolutionary War. The Van Campen Inn, designated as a “Yaugh house” during the colonial period, had been strategically built along Old Mine Road. This road became a vital thoroughfare for the movement of troops, transportation of military and other critical supplies, as well as a secure traveling route to Philadelphia during the Revolutionary War.

The Walpack Historical Society invites guests to join us on Sunday, July 19th, 2026, at 12 pm for the presentation of “Van Campen Inn – On the Road to Revolution.” This presentation will take place at the Walpack Center Church. The Van Campen Inn will be open for tours following the presentation. Those attending will learn about the Old Mine Road, the Van Campen Inn, Isaac Van Campen, John Adams, Major General Horatio Gates, Colonel John Rosenkrans, John Cleves Symmes, Brigadier General Casimir Pulaski and Major General John Stark.

Please note this event starts at 12 pm (not 1 pm). Guests are invited to arrive early to socialize and meet new people. Our bookstore will be open at the Walpack Center Church. Please remember that the bridge in Walpack Center remains closed. Guests must access Main Street using NPS 615.
